Ally M Makeup Artist

Growing up I remember lying on the living room floor looking at my Mum’s old 1970s Mary Quant makeup book. I loved the brightly coloured shadows and I’d daydream for hours about creating these looks.

I spent my later years feeling extremely self-conscious and wearing very thick caked-on makeup (if only I knew then what I know now!)

After years of working in the corporate world, I left and moved to Christchurch. I started working part-time at the Bobbi Brown counter in Ballantynes. Bobbi’s philosophy of ‘be who you are, only more confident’ really connected with me.

Working on the counter gave me the opportunity to be able to incorporate my love of painting with my love of people and a real desire to help them feel better about themselves. I did all my training on the counter and attended industry workshops as provided.

Freelancing at weddings and doing makeup lessons, I've grown in my own confidence and have created my brand - Ally M Makeup Artist. My grandparents used to call me Ally Cat which is where Ally comes from and where I associate lots of memories of love and kindness. This is what I try to recreate with you, my valued client and friend.

My fifteen years of makeup artistry experience allows me to help you feel good about yourself, be it on your Wedding Day, a Special Occasion, a Teen Workshop, a Photo Shoot or a Makeup Lesson.

"Ally recently did makeup on my wedding day for my Mum, mother-in-law, and bridesmaids, and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Ally was super lovely and put everyone at ease, and did such a beautiful job, too! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a truly fantastic makeup artist." - Elise Harris
